Addition of S-554 on 30% MEA based CO2 absorption using different reactors

https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.iecr.5b04906

An additive, S-554, was used to investigate the CO2 capture performance using MEA solutions. It was reported that the addition of the additive could lower the surface tension of the MEA solution. However, there was no direct correlation between CO2 capture efficiency and surface tension. Four types of reactors were investigated including a packed column, a stirred reactor, a wetted wall column, and a bubble column. The authors reported that the effect of surfactant addition was related to the type of reactor. Adding S-554 surfactant enhanced CO2 absorption performance using packed and bubble columns, while CO2 absorption was prohibited using the stirred reactor and wetted wall column.

The performance of Co2 absorption and mass transfer coefficient were plotted against CO2 loading using different reactors with and without the addition of S-554, as shown in a few figures. https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.iecr.5b04906
