Experimental and numerical study on CO2 absorption using a diameter-varying spray tower

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apenergy.2018.04.053

The above reference reported the experimental and numerical studies of a spray column based CO2 absorption using MEA. Two spray methods including dual-nozzle opposed impinging and spray in the middle method were investigated. Process optimisation indicated that monoethanolamine concentration and CO2 concentration were the two key factors affecting CO2 capture performance. In addition, the simulation results showed that the distribution of gas phase and liquid phase affected CO2 absorption performance.

The work has a schematic diagram of experimental set up (Figure 1). Absorption mechanism was also studied. The optimised parameters included MEA concentration, liquid flow rate, CO2 concentration and gas flow rate. Continuous gas phase flow field distribution was also studied and discussed.
